Introduction to Traditional Wet-shaving

I was lucky to stumble across a Youtube video in 2007 about shaving the old fashion way with a badger hair brush and barber’s soap. Thanks to the Mantic59 Youtube channel and blog, many men around the world now enjoy a satisfying shave every morning.

I will use this post to introduce the basic equipment needed for a good shave. Here is the list:

  • Badger hair shaving brush (synthetic or bristle brushes may also work)
  • Shaving soap or cream (Nothing out of an air-compressed can)
  • 1 double edged shaving handle (also known as, safety razor)
  • 1 double edged razor blade
  • 1 non-alcoholic after shave or skin moisterizer
  • Hot water, cold water
  • Towels (optional)
  • 1 bowl, 1 mug and a sink

Death Penalty, Abortion and Euthanasia

Death Penalty

I’ll agree, there are some nasty and mentally ill people on this planet however, killing people as a form of punishment is not a healthy way to teach a society. The state killing people, teaches others that killing is acceptable and appropriate. In summary, it provokes violence. We use the term civilised as a positive adjective. Let us move forward as a human race, leaving behind violent and barbaric customs.

Abortion

It’s the woman’s body, a baby is her commitment for the next 18 years. A woman might have been raped, a woman’s life may be at risk due to the pregnancy, the baby may be born with serious health problems. Whatever the case may be, a woman should have the right to choose what action to take before the baby is born. Continue reading

Love

It was always the ever-present search for something I didn’t know

Always too timid to go out and get it

Frustrated because time would go by without granting me my wish

Then one winter afternoon I was blessed with the greatest gift of all

I found love or better put, it found me and left a permanent mark on my heart

Believe me there is no better feeling than to experience emotions for someone and to love them

It is however, incredibly greater to have this and to know that the person feels the same and loves you back

I love you Camila

Coup d’état a thing of the past?

"OUT PINOCHELETTI" (a combination of Pinochet the dictator and Micheletti the interim president) Honduran military maintaining order while country awaits further developments

The elected president of Honduras was physically removed from office by the Honduran military and flown to Costa Rica on Sunday June 30. Apart from no foreign country (outside of Taiwan and Israel) recognising the new illegitimate government, the Organization of American States  (OAS) has demanded that Manuel Zelaya be reinstated or Honduras will be banned from the organization.

No where else have military dictatorships been more successful and more frequent than in Latin America. The latest and more infamous being the one of Chile’s Pinochet. Who made the news in 1998 when he was arrested in London for crimes against humanity. While Pinochet evaded trial for the killings, torture and disappearances of more than 3000 people, the arrest did send a chilling message to all former dictators that their days of immunity could be numbered.

Since that episode, the international community particularly in Latin America thought that the days of police states, military governments and nation-wide boot camps were over. As mentioned in my previous post, democracy was the model Latin America along with the Western countries aspired to uphold. Even Chavez’s Venezuela qualifies as a democracy. Continue reading

Democracy and the right to vote

Polling Booths - Ben Sutherland (Flickr)

We are at an age where democracy is the governance model that leading western countries adopt and attempt to introduce around the world – sometimes by force (Afghanistan, Iraq) and sometimes by political or economic pressure (Cuba). Let’s not forget the amount of interest that the recent Iran election has sparked.

Democracy

Democracy for me means that individuals (adults) who belong to a country through birth right or citizenship may exercise their consent on who should govern that country for the next four years. Each person is entitled to only one vote and the leader is established by the majority of the people. Continue reading
