I watched “requiem for a dream” the other night.
Whoa. It really shocked and surprised me.
It’s the first time I’ve seen an American film, with American actors and it felt like a European movie.
As weird as this may sound, I thought it was a beautiful movie. The scenes and imagery in it were great. The soundtrack was really well suited.
Without spoiling it for those who haven’t seen it. I really recommend it. It’s one of the best drama films I have ever seen. I agree with the comments I’ve read elsewhere that this movie should be shown to all students who are in highschool, maybe the ninth or tenth grade. Life can be a hard and cruel place, I think adolescents need to know this to assist in their decision making.
It’s up there with the other great dramas such as:
- Basketball diaries
- Sweet sixteen
- City of God
- Irreversible
Trainspotting touches on the same themes although there is a lot of humour in between.
