The three things I find are benefits of adopting an agile approach to work (and not just IT projects) are:
1. Only working on the highest priority items at any point in time
2. Better communication and feedback loops
3. Demonstrated early results that are continuous
Apart from that, the required involvement of stakeholders provides better accountability and less need for arduous status reporting.
